Midnight Sun Brewing Co. began commercially producing ales and lagers for the fine people of Alaska in 1995. Midnight Sun is the oldest brewery in Anchorage and the second oldest statewide. Our first beer was Wolf Spirit Sparkling Ale, a beer inspired by our president and founder, Mark Staples’ time in Australia. Kodiak Brown Ale was our second offering and then on from there. Today MSBC produces over 40 different ales and lagers a year. Some are available year-round, some seasonally, and others just once.
MSBC is world renowned for our barrel-aged stouts and barley wines, beers that are appropriate for our less-than-temperate climate and long dark winter nights. Our core brands include IPAs and Belgian ales to cover the rest of the days when it seems the sun never sleeps, nor the people of this wild northern country. Our flagship IPA, Sockeye Red, named for the Sockeye (red) salmon that fill our nets in the summer and our freezers all winter, is a piney-resinous IPA with a strong malt backbone and is perfect for any weather.
Midnight Sun has been pioneering styles and brewing methods for over two decades lending to our characteristic flavors that the hearty people of Alaska have come to know and love. Our water is the key ingredient to making Alaska-style ales. The very soft glacial-fed waters of the Chugach Mountains are the canvas on which we create our art. Certainly the water is what makes beer from Alaska so distinct.
Products from Midnight Sun can be found at most alcohol retailers in Alaska, from Dutch Harbor to Fairbanks and on to Ketchikan. We sell our products in 5- and 15-gallon kegs, 22-ounce bottles, growlers, and 12-ounce cans. To figure out which MSBC beer is right for you, come by the Loft any day of the week between 11am and 8pm to taste from one of our 16 beers on tap or one of our package products ready to go home with you. If you don’t live in Alaska, then you should definitely make a trip up. Just don’t tell anybody how amazing it is here; we want to keep that a secret. We also sell limited quantities of our products in Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and New York City.
OPERATIONS and employment
The brewery operates up to 7 days a week throughout the year. Tours are available every Thursday @ 6pm. No reservation is required and it is totally free. The tour begins in the Loft and it is recommended that you show up at least 5 minutes early so you don’t miss our brewery fish tap and the treat it has to offer…

Midnight Sun Brewing Company opened in May 1995 and is located in an industrial park in South Anchorage. We have "man v. nature" views: man-made metal and concrete are very evident but the Sleeping Lady and the Chugach Mountain range offer beautiful contrasts.
Our Alaska brewery license allows us to serve beer until 8 pm daily. We accept food orders up until 7:45 pm to keep in sync. This license also limits beer service to up to 36 ounces per person per day for on-site consumption (for here) and up to 5 gallons per person per day for off-site consumption (to-go).
Located on the second floor of our main building, the Loft offers 16 beers and 2 sodas on tap — all house-made. And we’ve established a daily menu of fresh fabulous fare — as well as exciting hot dish specials — to accompany our world-class beers. Our eclectic beers range from 4% wheat beers to over-12% imperial stouts and barley wines with many beer styles in between. And, in keeping with the 36-oz per person limit, we serve our beers in 6- and 12-oz glasses as well as a sampler paddle (4 x 3-oz pours) that counts as a 12-oz pour.
