Hey Seekers of Midnight Sun [mis]adventures:

A "midnight run" to the Russian River garners two fresh sockeye reds and, well, some "midnight sun". Yes, it's still daylight almost 'round the clock around here.

We'vd had a crazy few weeks. We pre-released MERCURY at The Anchor on 06/06 and flew our FIRST FLIGHT at McGinley's on 06/06. The Planet Beers, like, so totally, rocK! Since, we've got some "space" between the first [MARS, EARTH, MERCURY] and second [URANUS, PLUTO, SATURN] flights...maybe you'd like to host your own FIRST FLIGHT tasting/dinner for friends. Here are some suggested pairings with links to recipes:

MERCURY - "PF Chang's" Lettuce Wraps or teriyaki chicken wings
MARS - Brewer Ben's Gonzo Gumbo
EARTH - CIA's Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake

The next Planet Beers to be released will be Uranus [either JUL or SEP, depending on how quickly-or-NoT our buddy "brett" conditions this beer in bottles and kegs]; Pluto [late AUG - right around Pluto's reclassification anniversary on 8/24]; and Saturn [late OCT because this is a Belgian harvest ale, "dry-hopped" with wet hops from Yakima]. The SECOND FLIGHT tasting will be held at Kinley's but each beer will have its own pre-release party at some fabulous all-about-beer spot in Anchor-town. Stay tuned...

Planet Beers are available @ MSBC, most Brown Jug stores [throughout Anchorage], Gold Rush [Southside], Value Liquor [Old Seward/Klatt] and La Bodega in the Univeristy Center [mid-town].

This month I am launching a "growler campaign" with two themes thusfar:

Playing off the pop phrase "Go BiG oR Go HoME", I say:
Go BiG AND Go HoMe. That spells BiG BeeR LoVe in 64-oz'ers--which is FouR PiNTS--almost a six-pack--of draft beer in yer hand...although we emphatically suggest using a beer-friendly 10- to 16-oz glass.

The second logo design is "go green. go growler." It's simple. It's beautiful. It's earth-friendly. Fill. Deplete. Rinse. Repeat. [This is what I come up with at 3 AM.] Get your primary beer in growlers [and/or kegs] and stop tossing out all that glass and cardboard. Sure, recycle, but isn't it easier to re-use?

We've got TEES with both designs coming... Don't just walk yer talk--WE'RE YER BEER so WEAR YER BEER. We've also got FREE stickers so you can sticker yer beer fridge and yer bumper...and yer cellar door...

Insider NeWs:
1 - After releasing our 13th Anniversary Good MoJo Sour Belgian Brown Ale on draft on 5/30 and "getting it", I realized that it was not a "growler guzzler" beer but an extremely wonderful "to be cellared and enjoyed in 22-oz portions" kind of beer. The brewers transferred four kegs to a red wine oak barrel and we'll re-release it in a few months in labeled, cork-finished 22-oz'ers.

2 - If you haven't noticed, Kodiak Brown Ale has a new label...after 13 years! This was one of our two original beers so this is kind of a BiG deal for us. The new Kodiak label sports a "more close-up" crazy-eyed bear. New tees are now available. Same great beer...just an updated label.

3 - I've completely thunk-and-re-thunk our "Belgian line with French names" and , you know, I'm, like, totally over it--not the beers but the foreign names. Look for Epluche-culotte Trippel to be re-labeled as Panty Peeler Tripel (with some kicked up coriander and orange peel...like in the good ol' days) and La Maitresse du Moine Dark Strong Ale to be re-labeled as Monk's Mistress (same great recipe). And, I swear, on our brewers' souls...we will make Panty Peeler and Monk's Mistress tees this year. Maybe we need to start an under-there line...

Looking for BReW? Come by the brewery. The BeeR is aLways BOLD.
