Dear SeeKers
of an Incredibly Comfy Couch:
Well HeLL
YeaH...it's mY BiRTHDaY. ToDay. 45. I can barely believe it, yet SaY iT.
But, hey, now it's out and done. Of Course, I'm listening to Fiona Apple.
Gettin' my DarK oN. But it's a Happy DarK place. I am the Wordy B-Word.
That's wHo I bE. I feel that 36 was my MaGiC age. And, now, almost a
decade later, I still FeeL ready for what-eveh-life-throws-down BuT I now
gotta a lot mo' $h!t on my plate. It's an ALL-IN or walk away gig and I
[we] chose to throw down at this point in life and business. Yeah, it is
completely nuTso but I love iT.
OK...I was
supposed to toss this lil' dittie out FiRST but I was vainly distracted
by my own new aGe gig: there is a very limited amount of Berserker
Imperial Stout--on NITRO--on tap RIGHT NOW as a Sneak Peek to NexT WeeK's
official release. And just so U know...I dipped into iT lasterday. I
broke my oWn ruLe by imbibing Berserker somewhere other than my couch. I
lovingly sipped two 12-oz pours of this beast--in a row--then, upon
requesting a third, received Witbier as my
"hydration-slash-pacer" beer. I got BerzonKered on my last day
at 44. All I'm saying is...Be Safe: Love it to Yer Lips then get a safe
ride home--or, walk it off. The NITRO version is completely inZane. And
it's a "for-here" pour only. You WILL need a LiFeLine number to
call. Period. When 22's are available on FRI 7/31, you can then Become
One with your couch. Don't attempt to tempt FaTe; once you pop the top, U
are no longer in control. Berserker wiLL BerZonKer U.
That leads me
to my hair-of-the-dawg beer...today we release Obliteration V Double IPA, which features
Warrior and Nugget hops. I'm sippin' this beer, courtesy of Jeremiah who
brought me a "short" [-fill bottle] but not very much of it as
Gary removed the bottle to "save me" from myself. Everythang in
my life is yin-yang, which is why I am sO obviously balanced. :) Numero
Cinco in this Obliteration series is very delicious. I am not a HuGe
hophead. I am always looking for balance and a sturdy malt base. I lean
toward coriander and funk and sour. That being said, I love, LoVe, LOVE
OB5. It is malty and incredibly hoppy in its aroma and flavor and, yeah,
bitterness...but it's balanced without just being BiTTeR. We've got 6-
and 12-pours + growler- and keg-service on this lovely gem. The Sockeye
RedHeads and the MeltDowners will completely devour this beer but I want
the maLTsters and the Belgianistas to give iT a gO. Today.
Sorry about
the pause-in-thought there...Marko and I were just debating on whether I
should/NoT have a Berserker at this particular moment in time. He
suggested Witbier. I countered with Panty Peeler. It's a happy [birthday]
medium. Cheers, everyone! Marko and The Boyz are brewing his 2009 Crew
Brew today--Rumbah Double Bock, to be aged in rum barrels. The whole crew
is wearing bandanas. Ben is sportin' sword--one made from foam and, I
believe, "caution" tape. I love the industrial, industriousness
of uS. Hopefully I'll have a kool photo later today for the web site.
And, if
you've gotten this far down, I have a "to-do" thang for all
y'alls: go to http://adn.com/bestofalaska
and vote for your favorite Alaska[n]--but ignore the "n"--brew.
This is a hard one for MSBC to win because we make so many damn juicy
beers, which sub-divide our votes. We do much better in the Best Alaska
Brewery category but until the Anchorage Daily News changes its cats, I
just want to see aNy Alaska beer win other than some AMBER. Vote for your
favorite IPA, Brown Ale, Wheat. AK BeeR RocKs!
The Juice is
iN and Ben is now making sparkling lemonade...or, lemonada, for glass and
growler service. This fresh-faced soda will be online on TUE 7/28.
Good Gravy
Henry the 13th...now Gary brings me aNother OB5 short to replace the one
he took away earlier. So much for saving mE, eh! I know, I know. U can
only save yerself. If only you could save yerself from birthdays...
We just took
some shots of the bandana boyz--in the rain--in the midst of the Rumbah
brew. What a fabulous day. I am a Lucky Rainy-Day DucK.
SHOUT
OUTS: Humpy's
has NITRO Monk's Mistress and Fallen Angel + LoTs of our reggies on tap.
Kinley's has Old Whiskers and Meltdown. Cafe Amsterdam has their 10th
Anniversary Gruit and Obliteration V Double IPA. TapRoot has Fallen
Angel, Oosik Amber Ale, Old Whiskers Hefeweizen, Sockeye Red IPA and
Kodiak Brown Ale. Cafe 816/Muffin Man has Fallen Angel, Sockeye Red IPA,
Kolsch and Old Whiskers Hefeweizen. Mark@Muffin Man also has our RootBeer
on tap--making floats with homemade ice cream. I know, righT! The Muse at
the Anchorage Museum just put on Panty Peeler. YiKes! I knew I loved aRT.
BREWERY
TOURS at our new building every THU at 6 PM. Mark yer calendars. Tell yer
friends. Don't be late. Come early. Stay t'eight.
Big Slick American Barley
Wine, our fifth 2009 Crew Brew--is ouT and on the warpath. Almost 12% ABV
and 100 IBUs. I know, righT?! And if you don't want to rush straight into
a Big Slick, you can temper yer palate with Sockeye Red IPA or Meltdown
Double IPA. Everythang is back on the board and the whining has ceased.
HaLLeLujaH. Praise the BreWers.
You know
this...well, because I thought it up and put it on a dang t-shirt...but
LoVe is Hard. I know, right?! And I also say "if you're doing iT
right". Good news? We are back in stock of our #1 selling tee: Oosik
Amber Ale [oosik] Love is Hard. Come one, come all. The tee is iN and you
are sO ouT unless you wear one.
SPECIAL:
Through the end of JUL, buy ANY two tees--women's, men's, short- or
long-sleeve--and get one of our yellow-on-black logo tees FREE. We're not
crazy. We just love U.
modern
industrial vibe. crazy cool beer.
The
latest 2009 Crew Brew: On FRI 7/03 we
released Big Slick; we are pouring
6- and 12-oz glasses in the Loft as well as selling 22's "to
go".
This kick
ass American Barley Wine is all about The Hops— Nugget, Chinook,
Simcoe and Centennial. And, yeah, LoTs of ‘em.
OK…there’s a substantial malt base on which these juicy
Pacific NW hops lie down and do their dirty work. But...maybe
that’s too much info.
Grant is
the guy who presents and represents MSBC beers out in the field. He is
solid+steadfast+diligent. But outside of slinging MSBC beer, Grant is a
beast on the baseball field. He aaRggGHs it out with the Fairview
Pirates of the Alaska Baseball league
--holds several records in any given week. And then, there’s
poker. Grant knows his way around The River. But even he can’t
avoid the temptation of a Big Slick. Can U?
BIG SLICK
is the best non-paired hand in Texas Hold 'em but veterans advise
against betting this combo.
Beer/Food
Pairing of the Week: I am now working on our kitchen/menu project but we are NoT
gonna have fryers or open flame. So...just where do you get yer BuRGeR
oN? Skip the chains. Go to Long Branch Saloon. The bacon-cheddar burger
with onion rings paired with Sockeye Red IPA is a slam dunk. Junior's not
joking--they got The Best Buns in Town. And I know BooTie.
TRAVEL
TIP: Our GM
Gary is organizing a BLOCK PARTY in McCarthy--yeah, look it up on a
map--on FRI AUG 07. It will be a complete blast. I'm thinking MaYHeM will
ensue. From Anchor-town, it's a bit of a drive but we're thinking folks
might want to organize some caravans to get there and back safely. Of
course, you'll have to stay [at least] the night but RVs, tent camping
and local accomodations are options. We'll have more deeTs soon but if
this sounds like a "do-er," mark yer calendars and stay tuned.
We've got
LoTs of FaBuLouS, FRiVoLouS FuN for you this and every season. Come by
the NEW brewery. The BeeR is aLways BOLD.
