Dear SeeKers of 'The-Glass-is-always-Greener-on-the-Other-Side BeeRs:

PoTs o' GOLD and GLorious GoBLeTs o' GREEN! It be THaT time again. Time to roll in the four-leaf clover and drink 'til you want that [not-so-]cute lil' leprechaun in the corner. BuT it iS TUE and if all's you want to do is get home to that plentiful plate o' corned beef and cabbage, stop by the brewery and grab a growler of GREEN BEER to-go. The in-and-ouT rule applies here...and I'm not talkin' about gettin' lucKy; I'm talkin' green iN = green ouT. Apologies if I've reminded a LoT of yous for the 13th straight year but, with newbies in the crowd, I feel the need to lessen the day-after burden. Go green...in more ways than 1!

If, however, you're finishing up yer day and wanna get yer uBer lucKy grooVe on, then get yer shamrock-shakin' booTie down to McHumpy's. Enjoy a McPint of Midnight Sun GREEN BEER then McDance and/or McPinch the McNight away before McCabbing yer McWay McHome and McWashing a coupla Mc'Cedrins down with a McBucket O'Water. Ready, set, pack: ID, moolah, something green [or other pinch-proof gear], cab fare [to the post-party], beer goggles, leprechaun-resistant undies, table dancin' shoes, anti-cabbage breath spray, end-of-rainbow-seeking device, lucky 4-leaf clover [which will -- BTW -- negate the powers of the leprechaun-resistant undies--you decide], raingear, batteries, energy drink [which will -- BTW -- only emphasiZe the powers of The Whiskey], cab fare [from the post-party], Scoobie snacks, ice pack. OK...so maybe I've done this a time or two. Just sharing knowledge. I should write a book...or seven.

If yer lookin' for an Irish-inspired toast, try this one:
I drink to yer health when I'm wit ya; I drink to yer health when I'm alone;
I drink to yer health so often; I'm worried about my own.
If you can't remember that one once the beer | whiskey | malarkey starts flowin', just say "Irish I had a BeeR." Always works for me...and I am not even Irish.

A definitive drumroll please...the second in our 2009 Crew Brew series - DESCENT - debuts on FRI 3/20. We'll have a keg on tap for samples plus bottles for sale. Check out TapRoot and Cafe Amsterdam for draft...and Brown Jug, Gold Rush, La Bodega and Value Liquor at Klatt for bottles.

The second in our 2009 Crew Brew series debuts on FRI 3/20 at the brewery.

2009 Crew Brew Series:
Heading into 2009, the NINE of us will each design, name and brew a beer to be released in 2009. We are very excited about this series. It’s a great way to “freeze” this time and space – right before we jump into the new place and add new folks. These NINE beers will be fabulously eclectic and completely incredible.

Brewer K-Dogg's DESCENT Imperial Abbey Ale melds malt and earth, spice and fruit to create a vehicle that shows you "the way down". A Belgian yeast strain contributes flavor notes that perfectly accent the raisins and grains of paradise used in the brewing process. With strength and stamina, DESCENT is deliciously deliberate in its mission.

Make way, Downers!

Gallo's Mexican Restaurant on Arctic at Dimond is hosting its first-ever MSBC beer dinner on TUE 4/14, beginning at 6:30 pm. Seats are $15 per person or $25 per couple. Once we move to The New Place, we'll be releasing a LoT of long-awaited beers: Good MoJo Sour Brown Ale, JUPITER Champagne-style Tripel, and NEPTUNE Sour Dark Strong Ale. The project/move is progressing. You, dear ale-mail friend, will be amongst The First to Know.

THANKS to all of our FEB beer samplers! We are donating all FEB sales of our beer samples to Dare to Care--almost a $1000. Thanks for making a difference in the everyday lives of Anchorage school children.

CATCH-UP: The first annual Beer Belly Competition at La Mex on Spenard Road during Fur Rondy was a jolly jelly belly jiggler. OK...I laughed at least three pounds of @$$ off too. The 8 contestants were completely game for fame and fortune [read: LoTs of incriminating photos and a $250 grand prize] and, literally, LeT iT aLL HaNG ouT. James "Dr. Fermento" Roberts, one of La Mex's "regulars" Velda and I had the best seats in the bar at the judges' table. We selected winners in all four cats: hairiest, most talented, sexiest and biggest GiRTH -- JeeZ, why-oh-why do I love that word! -- then picked the Best of Show winner: a gYnormous 402-pounder that was introduced as "Robert" but goes by "Biker Bob" on most every day. He proudly paraded around the bar in his crown-brero [read: crown over sombrero] and absolutely loVed Dr. Fermento but somehow ended up as mY groupie by the end of the afternoon. Beer This. Queen That. Next thang ya know, ya got a groupie in tow. Funny thing though - when I met up with a much, much more sober version of him the next day outside Darwin's Theory during Rondy festivities, he barely recognized me. [See photo below.] But I LoVed how LiL' he made me look and feel...even when I was wearing an Ale-Slayers hockey jersery over my North Coast puffy down jacket in 20-degree weathah, waiting for our "herd" in the Running of the Reindeer games to go-Baby-gO. A long-awaited shot of TeQuiLa in Darwin's didn't hurt either. Gawd, I love Anchor-town!!

Beer/Food Pairing of the Week: A few friends + us [Marko and me] hit Ginger last week on two diff nights. OMG...good times. Foodies will D-I-E. OK...we shared LoTs of goodies: raw oysters, pomme frites, tuna poke, chicken lettuce wraps, duck breast chinois, pork ribs, hot and sour thai soup, strawberry chili salad, Chinese 5-spice chocolate cake and banana bread pudding. We've got Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter on tap, which I would highly recommend to accompany the duck, ribs and almost any/every dessert. BuT let's get KO, KB and/or SR back on and totally rocK ouT the menu. Ya wiT me?!

We've got LoTs of FaBuLouS, FRiVoLouS FuN for you this season...and beYond. Come by the brewery. The BeeR is aLways BOLD.

Cheers,
