Hey Seekers of Sunny-Sky-Greets-Cloudy-Beer:
Just before we tapped into Berserker and Sloth at 5 PM last FRI, we started a line of empty growlers on the counter, all waiting for Berserker. What is iT about that beer? It's got that crazy mad-warrior cult following that you just can't fully fathom in marketing school. We killed the keg in less than 30 minutes. Of course, my growler was in the mix. And I even PAID for it. AND I am sipping and savoring it this week. What's a little carbonation loss in a beer this BiG, ay? I know I'm GLUTTONY but there's been some "angel's share" off my growler of Berserker that is more caused by the MaN in my house than, ahem, AnGeLs. Amazingly the Sloth on tap lasted through the weekend (although--in all fairness--I think we poured two kegs of Sloth.) Sloth is also incredible--it's actually smoother and rounder--just like I LiKe--with a Belgian-y yeast thang goin' on. Sloth is still available in 22-oz bottles...but, unlike it's personality/namesake, it's goin' quicK.
I checked out Cyrano's Off-Center PlayHouse's new production on Opening Night, 5/16. It was a beer blast! The Time of Your Life really is NoW so don't delay. The play runs thru SUN JUN 8. The setting is 1939, San Francisco, honky tonk...and the beer flows. If you go, you may get mighty thirsty so grab one of our 22-oz'ers on the way to yer seat. Tickets available through: CenterTix.net.
Tonight we mark the start of SuMMeR with the release Old Whiskers Hefeweizen. Draft only until TUE when the crew bottles the rest of the batch. It's HeFe HeaVeN for German wheat beer fans. The brewers didn't mess around: they step-infusion mashed and naturally carbonated this one. It's got the tradtional clove-banana esters/flavors and cloudiness that makes it Spunky and Chunky. Fill yer growlers and kegs for the weekend and kick off yer summer right.
We are open SAT but closed on MON so BeeR uP in a timely and plentiful fashion.
Gearing up for the Food Drive and Silent Auction on 5/30 @ MSBC from NOON to 7 PM, I am collecting a bunch of fun stuff for y'alls to bid on. So far the list looks like this:
* an official ALE SLAYERS hockey jersey, #13 to celebrate our anniversary
* a dozen or more items of unique (read: one-up) MSBC gear, including some Fall 2008 Helly Hansens wear
* a few killer MSBC beers (including Berserker!), some in 1.5L bottles - perfect "party starters"
* art objects, some are beer-related
* gift certificates to your favorite places
* "party" packages
Be sure to come by and bid on these items. ALL monies collected from the Silent Auction will go directly to the Food Bank of Alaska.
There are other ways to contribute to the cause by just doing your weekly gig:
* bring cans/pkgs of food, which are good for beer samples (up to 7 per person per day) but you can contribute on 5/30 AND 5/31
* all beer sample sales from 5/30 and 5/31 will be donated to FBA
Or, just bring food - contribute as much can/pkg food to the cause as you'd like. We're gearing this toward "feeding kids in summer" so bring peanut butter, jelly, jam, honey, mac n' cheese, tuna, ramen (although 8 ramen = 1 beer sample!), cereals, soups (dried mixes and canned), tuna/hamburger helpers, rice/pasta mixes...and this is MY skewedview: brownie/cake/cookie/muffin mixes and s'more fixin's--Hershey bars/graham crackers/big 'mallows. Please keep it non-perishable, nutricious, delicious, kid-friendly and FuN.
Our 13th Anniversary Good MoJo Belgian-style Brown Ale was brewed with sour cherries, then fermented, then blended with a really old [like 7 year-old] barrel of FuNK. And, of course, I mean that in the most loving BeeR GeeK way. You see...a long long time ago, this destined-to-be-wonderful barrel of beer was innoculated with brettanomyces, lacto and pedio, then dosed with berries, then tucked away in a deep dark corner and allowed to slowly yet emphatically do its magic. NoW...this fabulous FuNK is being blended with a fresh Belgian-style brown beer to balance the old with the new, the sour with the sweet, and funk with the fresh. It is amazing and fabulous. It was a progressive piece of arT so we didn't have time to get a label together for bottling. It will be difficult--if not impossible--to recreate this little beast so I am hoping that U come in and get yer share. Don't miss ouT.
The next Planet Beer MERCURY Belgian-style Small Beer will be pre-released at The Anchor Pub & Club on THU 06/05/08 @ 5 PM and released at MSBC on FRI 06/06/08. BUT we're adding a FIRST FLIGHT event to the series: First Flight at First Taste Friday at McGinley's on FRI 06/06/08 5 PM to 8 PM. [I dare you to use more F-words in one sentence, Baby.] Try the FIRST THREE PLANET BEERS--MARS, EARTH, MERCURY--on draft in ONE venue... although I would highly suggest enjoying them in reverse release order for the sake of the 'buds. This is the FIRST FLIGHT of our space program. Meet us @ McGinley's.
Come by the brewery. The BeeR is aLways BOLD.
Cheers,
